Guess What Day It Is?

Dear Lorenzo,

Today is Saturday, 9:05 p.m., and I am home, watching Curb Your Enthusiasm because HBO is free this weekend so happy birthday to me!

I am 45 years old today.

As well you know, I LOVE getting older. I love the wisdom that comes with aging. I love that the older I get, the less likely I am to put up with anybody's bullshit-ass excuses (especially my own). I love the feeling of becoming stronger, more confident in the choices I've made thus far.

I love the woman that I am still getting to become.

Lorenzo, I am a proud, self-proclaimed nerd.

I record and watch Jeopardy every, single day. At family parties, I kick everyone's ass at whatever trivia or board game we happen to be playing. As much as I love television, there's nothing that I love more than getting lost among the pages of a good book. And so when a member of my online fitness group casually mentioned a book that she was reading, I googled it, then ordered it from Amazon right away.

The book is called, The Slight Edge and it is the best book I've ever read in my entire life.

The Slight Edge is all about how we can accomplish anything we want through changing the way that we think about the simple, daily activities that we complete each day.

Lorenzo, this book has changed the way I view my entire life. After reading, and re-reading it at least a dozen times over the past year, I've made a decision.

My birthday gift to myself is 365 days of completing the daily disciplines that I truly believe will bring me closer to my dreams.

I will no longer be too tired to write, too lazy to cook a healthy meal or too busy to force my kid to spend 20 minutes a day reading.

Correction: I can FEEL all of those excuses but I can't give in to them.

Those excuses are what's brought me to my current state and...this right here, is NOT where I want to be.

There's SO much more that I can accomplish in my life.

And this is the year that I plan on making every, single one of my dreams come true.
